QUESTION:
Who was the man that inspired you to become a great gournalist and author?
ANSWER:
I don't think I am a great journalist or a great author. I still have so much to learn and to improve. I hope I get there in the end. No particular person has inspired me in my work, except perhaps -- from the grave - my father, who died before I started work. From an early age he fed me a love of books.

When was the debut in Television?
ANSWER:
You mean my debut in television? Well, I worked on my first documentary in 1992, I think.


QUESTION:
Who was the best and the worst moment of your career?
ANSWER:
Best: covering the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as president. Worst: entering a train carriage full of slaughtered women and children in el Salvador.


QUESTION:
Did you ever come to Greece?
ANSWER:
Only to Corfu, on holiday, which I loved. I feel ashamed never to have been to Athens. But I will get there eventually.


QUESTION:
Do you know any Greek actor or athlete or author?
ANSWER:
Personally, no. I would have loved to have met Homer, or Helen of Troy! I have read the Iliad and the Odyssey in 16th century English translations.

What are you hobbies?
ANSWER:
Reading, football, being with my child.

What is your advice for the new journalists and authors?
ANSWER:
Be honest and never lose your enthusiasm for your work. If you do lose it, try something else.


QUESTION:
Are you married?
ANSWER:
Separated.

Do you have any children?
ANSWER:
One boy, nine years old.
